Apex Quadra dive mask

As you may have seen from previous blog postings, we have been out in the Seychelles as members of the press, courtesty of the Seychelles Tourist Board to cover their Carnaval.

Whilst there, we had a little chance to go diving and Apeks Marine Equipment were kind enough to send us one of their masks to try.

Apeks is a UK company who have been manufacturing marine equipment for over thirty-five years.

The Apeks Quadra Dive Mask

The mask they sent us was the Quadra, a low profile mask with a patented four window design for a panoramic view.  This was an especially good choice as I film underwater and need a good all round view.

Unlike a lot of other masks, the Quadra has two side windows which extend your viewing considerably over traditional masks.

Having only a few dives available, I was concerned that a new mask may not fit well and that I would be spending the entire time clearing or adjusting it for fit, but I need not have worried as this mask was a brilliant fit! – I have tried quiete a few masks over my diving lifetime and have to say that this is one of the very few that felt really comfortable and did not leak at all!  It has a generous soft silicone skirt that really moulded to the contours of my face well the first time I put it on.  It never fogged and felt right throughout my dives.  When I had to equalise, pinching the nose area was easy and no problems were encountered.  The other thing for me and masks is that I usually like to wear a slap strap because I hate the way normal straps pull at your hair as well as just being too tight on the back of my head but this mask suprised me yet again having a very comfortable strap that was easy to remove off my head without catching hairs.

The lenses are made of tempered glass for safety and the overall construction is of good quality – it even comes in a pretty solid low profile box for transportation!

In conclusion, I was very impressed with how comfortable the mask was and that I could forget about it and concentrate on my diving and filming.  Although low profile, it was never a problem as the depth and pressure increased on my dives as it never once pressed hard against any part of me. Very comfortable. The mask is available in titanium, black or transparent.  For more information on the mask go to the Quadra mask page on the Apeks website.

Thanks to Peter Greenwell at Apeks for sending us the mask to review.
